The VACUUM CONDENSER indicator is lit

Those two words are the control asking for air across the coil. They are not a reading of the refrigerant circuit, whatever the second word suggests. Sub-Zero Pro Repair Denver measures the machine compartment before anything is opened — (720) 704-2791.

What the two words do and do not mean

On this generation the indicator organises everything. The manufacturer’s troubleshooting guide is split by whether it is flashing, so the first thing worth knowing is not the cause but the pairing: lit with normal temperatures, or lit with a compartment gone warm. Those are different pages of the same book.

It also clears the lazy way. Power off, power on, and the words go. That makes a return more informative than the first appearance — the condition behind it never left.

What we measure

  1. 01 Whether the indicator is flashing, and what both compartments read Sub-Zero's guide branches on that pair before a single test. Normal temperatures with the words up is a short list; a warm compartment is a long one.
  2. 02 Air temperature leaving the machine compartment Heat trapped in the bay is the first cause printed against this indicator, and the quickest one to rule in or out.
  3. 03 The condenser fan blade, by hand and then under power Three separate causes live here: a blade fouled, a blade loose on its shaft, a motor that no longer turns when it is asked to.
  4. 04 115 volts at the condenser-fan terminal on the board, compressor running Separates a dead motor from a board that has stopped feeding one. From the front of the cabinet the two faults look the same.

What it usually is

The words up and both compartments sitting on their set points

Airflow. The list Sub-Zero prints for that combination runs to four items, and three are the coil, the blade and the motor turning it.

Fan motor — evaporator or condenser $310–$680

No voltage at the fan terminal with the compressor turning

The board has stopped driving the fan. The motor hanging off it is frequently in good order, which is why the meter goes on the terminal before a part is ordered.

Control board $430–$940

A cleaned coil, a fan spinning properly, and the indicator back a week later

The finding that changes the conversation. Sub-Zero puts early signs of a sealed-system leak at the foot of this list, reachable once everything cheaper has been measured and cleared.

Sealed system, compressor included $1,480–$3,420

Safe to keep running?

While both compartments hold their temperatures, yes. This indicator is a request for airflow rather than notice of a failure, and cabinets carry it for weeks without losing food. The meaning changes the moment either side starts drifting: the control has been compensating, and the list it points at is no longer the cheap one.
