Almost every overrun reading on a Sub-Zero starts at the condenser, because heat that cannot leave the coil looks exactly like a sealed system that has given up. Sub-Zero Pro Repair Denver cleans first and reads second — (720) 704-2791.

What the owner can safely do
Sub-Zero publishes this as owner work. Power down at the control panel first. Gloves on —
the fins cut. The grille above the doors flips up: pull its bottom edge out and rotate.
Lift the felt away with a soft brush and a vacuum. Follow the run of the fins, never cut
across it, or you flatten the very thing you came to open up. Six to twelve months is the
interval printed in the guide.
That is the whole of it. Nothing below the grille is owner work.
Why the second reading is the one that counts
A clean on its own proves nothing. Until the coil is clear, every other reading is being
taken through it. So we note the machine-compartment temperature first, clear the coil,
and come back to the same figure once the cabinet has had a few days to settle. If it has
moved, the coil was the fault. If it has not, we have bought a shorter list.
What we measure
01Machine-compartment air before and afterThe same figure taken twice is the whole test. A coil that was the problem drops several degrees; one that was not barely moves.
02Room temperature at the grilleSub-Zero states the unit performs best between 60°F and 90°F. A cabinet in a hot utility space is fighting the room, not the coil.
03Compartment temperatures over the following two or three daysPull-down after a clean takes time. Judging it in an hour is how a good repair gets called a failure.
04The stored codes again, after the recheckA code cleared that stays away was about the coil. One that returns was never about the coil.
What it usually is
A coil solid with grey felt, and a compressor that has not stopped for days
Cottonwood off the lake, drywall dust from the scrape next door, and pet hair. Sub-Zero asks for this every six to twelve months, and almost nobody does it.

A coil cleaned twice in one year and dirty again both times
Something pulling debris through faster than usual, or a return-air path the cabinetry has closed off. Cleaning treats that; finding the airflow fault ends it.

A spotless coil and the overrun carrying on regardless
The useful outcome, oddly. With airflow ruled out the list moves to the fans, then the compartment sensor, then the sealed system — a reading behind each step.

Safe to keep running?
Yes, and you should — a cabinet with a dirty coil is still cooling, just expensively. Sub-Zero's own caution is that a condenser left uncleaned can cost temperature and eventually mechanical damage, so a coil nobody has touched is worth an afternoon before it is worth a quote.
