No code display: what we measure on an older cabinet instead
An older Sub-Zero has nothing stored to hand over, so the diagnosis is measured rather than read. Sub-Zero Pro Repair Denver brings the instruments the cabinet does not have — (720) 704-2791.
Dial-control cabinets, and the built-in generation whose panel keeps no numbered codes
What is actually on the front of an older cabinet
Three sorts of front turn up in Denver kitchens, and only one keeps numbered entries. The
oldest have a dial and no way to speak to you. The generation after it has a word panel:
temperatures, lit words like SERVICE and VACUUM CONDENSER, and a diagnostic read that
returns a letter for each sensor position instead of a numbered list. Its service manual
carries no error-code table. Only the later built-in control files entries in memory.
Measurement standing in for a readout
So the diagnosis gets built rather than recited. We put a thermometer in the compartment
and another at the evaporator, because the pair answers what neither can alone. We meter
the sensors against the resistance printed for that generation rather than ask a display.
Start-up draw, condenser air and the door seal fill in the rest. What comes out is the
list a newer panel would have handed over, arrived at with instruments.
What we measure
01Compartment and evaporator temperature, taken as a pairEither alone is ambiguous. Together they separate a cabinet short of cooling from one whose cold is not being moved.
02Sensor resistance against the figures published for that generationRoughly 32,500 ohms at freezing and 10,000 at 77°F. A sensor outside that is misinforming a control that cannot tell you so.
03Amp draw at start-upWith no memory in the cabinet, this is the only history available: the moment of highest load, watched live.
04Condenser air, and what the fan is actually doingThe same opening question the numbered panels ask, without the prompt. Heat with nowhere to go imitates every expensive fault there is.
What it usually is
A dial-control cabinet holding its cold but running far longer than it used to
Airflow, usually — the coil, the fan, or the space around them. The order of work does not change because the panel is silent.
Fan motor — evaporator or condenser$310–$680
VACUUM CONDENSER lit on a word panel and taken for a refrigerant warning
It is not one. The indicator belongs to the older built-in generation, and its published causes open at a dirty condenser, a blocked or loose fan blade, a stopped fan motor — the sealed system is the last line.
No band covers this one — quoted after the diagnosis
A sensor measured well outside its published resistance
Exactly what a numbered code would have named outright. Here it takes a meter, and the panel temperatures had looked plausible the whole time.
These cabinets were built to keep working, and often do long after the readings slip. That is the trap: with no indicator to light, the warning is run time and the temperatures, and both are readable at home. Holding its set points, it can wait for a booked visit. Losing ground across days rather than hours, it should be measured.

Tell us what the panel is showing and we will tell you what we would measure
first. Sub-Zero Pro Repair Denver — (720) 704-2791.
On the road 8:00 am – 8:00 pm, seven days.
Describe the symptom on the phone and you will usually hear what it probably is before anyone drives out. A $89 service call covers the visit and the full diagnosis in Denver, and comes off the repair once you approve it.
