SERVICE is cleared two different ways, and which one works tells you which indicator you had. Sub-Zero Pro Repair Denver copies the stored codes out before clearing anything, on (720) 704-2791.
Built-In panels carrying SERVICE, and the older generation that adds VACUUM CONDENSER
Two indicators, two procedures
A flashing word and a steady word clear differently, and swapping the methods is why a
reset gets written off as failed. The flashing one goes out when the unit is powered down
at the panel and brought back up. The steady one will not. It marks numbered entries in
memory, and it clears when the door-alarm bell pad is held for fifteen seconds with the
unit on — the control answers with a short beep. On the older built-in generation, whose
panel carries VACUUM CONDENSER as well, every indicator clears the first way.
The record is not the fault
Sub-Zero attaches a condition to the fifteen-second clear: the problem has to be corrected
first. That condition is the warning here. Clearing a fault that has been put
right closes the file. Clearing one that has not deletes the only written account of it,
and the control starts the account again on the next cycle that offends it. So we read,
clear, then come back to an empty memory and watch what refills it.
What we measure
01Which indicator is lit, and whether it movesThe procedure follows from this alone. One answers a power cycle; the other answers only the bell pad, held down.
02The stored list, copied out before anything is clearedClearing destroys it. There is no route back to what the control saw, so the entries go on paper first.
03Both compartments at the moment of clearingThe clean baseline. Anything appearing after it is new, dated from here, and ours to account for.
04The panel again once the cabinet has run a cycle or twoOne that stays away recorded trouble that is over. One that returns is live, and now it has a start time.
What it usually is
A steady indicator back on the panel days after somebody cleared it
Nothing had been corrected. The bell-pad hold empties memory; it has no effect on the condition that filled it, so the control opens the same file.
No band covers this one — quoted after the diagnosis
The word taken out by pulling the power, and no codes written down
Half a job. The power cycle takes the flashing version away; the numbered entries sit untouched and unread, so the diagnostic read has to be done over at the cabinet.

The bell pad held down and no beep back from the control
The hold was short, the unit was not switched on, or the pad is not answering. The manual settles the last with a membrane-switch test, behind the panel.

Safe to keep running?
Clearing changes nothing about how the cabinet behaves, so the food question is answered by the temperatures, not by the word. Both compartments at their set points and there is no hurry. An indicator that returns while a compartment drifts is the signal to stop clearing it: the cause has not moved.
