EC 06 is the coil sensor, not the one on the display
EC 06 names the sensor clipped to the refrigerator's evaporator, not the one behind the number on the door. Sub-Zero Pro Repair Denver confirms it under the letters rE in Diagnostic Mode — (720) 704-2791.
Built-In 600-3 Series control, confirmed through Diagnostic Mode
The distinction this code draws is the whole of it. A built-in carries one sensor in the
fresh-food air and a second on the coil behind the rear wall. EC 06 is the second, and
nothing on the front of the cabinet reports it.
So the confirmation moves inside. The location table files the refrigerator evaporator
under rE, and EE in that slot is the control admitting it cannot use what it receives.
What we measure
01Both displayed temperatures against their set pointsThis entry stands on cabinets whose panels read perfectly. Correct figures do not clear it; they place it.
02The rE and EE lines when the readings are toggled throughSub-Zero's own confirmation for a disconnected or shorted refrigerator evaporator sensor is to look for that pair in Diagnostic Mode.
03Continuity to J1, then resistance at the sensorThe board end is metered before anyone follows a lead into the liner. One figure then separates a failed sensor from a failed connection.
What it usually is
SERVICE lit on a cabinet holding both of its set points
Sub-Zero files this sensor under exactly that heading — warm or normal temperatures with SERVICE alone flashing. Nothing in the kitchen changes, so the confirmation happens in Diagnostic Mode rather than by eye.
EE where the rE value should be when the readings are stepped through
The control saying it cannot use what the coil sensor sends. It is the fastest confirmation on this code, and it costs nothing but a key sequence.
No band covers this one — quoted after the diagnosis
EC 50 stored alongside it on a fresh-food side that never settles
Cause and consequence filed as two entries. The route through that run-time code begins at 05 or 06, because refrigeration cannot be judged through a sensor that is not reporting.
Often, yes. The compartment is still steered by its cabinet sensor, a separate part on a separate circuit, so food is rarely the first casualty. What has gone is the control's read on the coil — and on a not-cooling call that is the view we want back before anyone raises the sealed system.
