EC 05: the refrigerator compartment sensor stopped answering
EC 05 is the control reporting that the refrigerator compartment sensor went open, shorted, or swung about until it stopped being usable. Sub-Zero Pro Repair Denver meters the circuit back to the board first — (720) 704-2791.
Built-In 600-3 Series control, where the numbered codes are stored
Sub-Zero prints two actions against this code and then stops. Connections and continuity
to J1 first. Resistance at the sensor second, and the part replaced only where the figure
falls outside the window.
We keep that sequence because this is the sensor whose reading the panel puts on the
door. On a cabinet that is not cooling, working out which of the thermometer and the
refrigeration is lying has to come first.
What we measure
01The panel figure against a thermometer on the middle shelfSub-Zero treats a product ten degrees or more colder than the displayed temperature as a misread compartment sensor. The gap is the evidence.
02Continuity from the sensor to J1 on the control boardThe manufacturer's first action here is the wire and its plug, not the component at the far end of them.
03Sensor resistance, once the wiring has been clearedA sensor outside 30,000 to 33,000 ohms at 32°F is finished. Inside that, the fault is back in the run we have just metered.
What it usually is
Both temperatures reading sensibly, and the entry sitting in memory regardless
A dropout the control caught and wrote down. Ten seconds of open or short is enough, and the record stays on after the circuit has recovered.

A fresh-food side running colder than the number on the door admits
The display cannot audit the part it depends on. This is the sensor the panel prints, so a separate thermometer is the only second opinion available in the kitchen.
Both fresh-food sensors land on one connector at the board. A matching pair gets read at that end before two parts are ordered.

Safe to keep running?
Generally yes. Cooling has not stopped; only the control's view of it has, and a compartment will hold its set point for a long while on an unreliable reading. What you lose is the right to trust the door. Keep a thermometer on the middle shelf until the circuit has been metered.
