The door alarm sounds with the door shut

A chime behind a closed door means the control still believes that door is standing open. Sub-Zero Pro Repair Denver reads what the cabinet is sensing the door through before anybody reaches for a hinge — (720) 704-2791.

What the chime is counting

The alarm is a timer on an open door and nothing else. Sub-Zero’s current guide sounds it once a door has been ajar for more than sixty seconds; the older built-in guide gives thirty. Neither figure has anything to do with temperature, which is why a perfectly cold cabinet can chime all evening.

The lamps corroborate it. Sub-Zero states that a door left ajar shuts the interior lighting off to keep heat out, and the service manual carries its own entry for lamps burning behind a closed door. Both are views of one question: what is this cabinet reading the door through?

What we measure

  1. 01 Whether the interior lamps go out as the door meets its seat Sub-Zero's own test presses the switch and watches the lamps. Fastest way to see what the cabinet thinks the door is doing.
  2. 02 The switch depressor on the cabinet face The manual names a depressor missing or bent before the switch behind it. Bent metal gets ruled out first, not last.
  3. 03 The door against its seat, top and bottom A door held a few millimetres off by a shelf or a hinge out of adjustment is genuinely ajar, and the alarm is right.
  4. 04 Compartment temperature while the chime is sounding Separates a door that really was open, with warming to show for it, from a switch reporting movement that never happened.

What it usually is

A chime that starts unprompted, with the lamps still burning behind a shut door

The cabinet reading a door that is closed. Sub-Zero's list for lamps that stay on is short: a depressor bent or missing, then the switch itself.

The chime only after somebody has been loading the shelves

A real ajar. Food obstruction heads the manufacturer's list of reasons a door will not close, and a jar proud of a shelf edge does it.

A chime, lamps that go out properly, and a warm patch near the front of the shelf

A door that is not seating. The alarm is doing its job, and what we measure next is where the gap is.

Safe to keep running?

Yes — a chime endangers nothing, and the food is fine for as long as the compartment holds. The real cost is the warning itself. A cabinet that sounds off for no reason gets switched to silent, and a door genuinely left open then passes unnoticed overnight. Muting the key is not a repair.
