Lights on, nothing cooling: showroom mode

Showroom mode lets a Sub-Zero light up, hold a panel full of figures and cool nothing at all. It is a setting rather than a failure, and Sub-Zero Pro Repair Denver rules it in or out first — (720) 704-2791.

Why the panel looks completely normal

Every other page in this section opens with a control trying to tell you something. This one opens with a control convinced it has nothing to report. The mode is named for where it belongs, and while it is set the panel keeps up appearances: two reasonable figures, no flashing word, no code filed away.

That is what makes it expensive to miss. A warm Sub-Zero with a calm display reads like a sealed-system question — and on Sub-Zero’s own run-time lists the sealed system is the last item to be checked, never the first.

What we measure

  1. 01 The panel figures against a thermometer on the shelf In this mode the display carries the set points it would hold. A thermometer beside it turns the gap into the finding.
  2. 02 Whether the SERVICE indicator is flashing It is not. The control has logged no complaint, because as far as it knows it was never asked to do anything.
  3. 03 What comes up first in Diagnostic Mode Sr in the place an error code would occupy names the mode outright. One reading, and the visit changes direction.
  4. 04 Machine-bay sound and air Nothing turning and nothing warm. An idle bay beneath a lit panel is the shape of this and little else.

What it usually is

Two set points on the panel above a cabinet sitting at room temperature

The symptom Sub-Zero publishes for this mode, near enough word for word. Those figures are targets on a screen rather than anything a sensor measured, and no compressor was asked to chase them.

Sr where a code would be, on a unit lately delivered, moved or bought off a floor

The setting travelling with the cabinet. It comes back out through the keys on the front: the unit is taken off at the power key, WARMER and COLDER are held together, and the power key is pressed once more.

Warm compartments, nothing stored in memory, and the SERVICE word not flashing

The combination that sends a visit toward the sealed system too early. Sub-Zero's tables put this mode among the first causes of that picture, ahead of anything calling for gauges.

Safe to keep running?

The machine is safe; the food is not. Nothing inside is being strained, because nothing inside is working — idleness by instruction rather than by failure. Move what matters to another cold space, bring the unit out of the mode, and judge it on the temperatures it then holds.
